Years ago bandleader and alto saxophonist Jeff Sanford started collecting big band arrangements of Raymond Scott's music and bringing them to a Monday night rehearsal band. That was how the Cartoon Jazz Orchestra began.
Now, the Cartoon Jazz Band consists of a core group of seven musicians that is filled out by all of friends for the rare big band concerts. Local San Francisco Lenny Carlson has also been contributing to the band's repertoire with originals from his very twisted mind.
